Noah's Ark and Strike Animal Welfare Society Partnership

Noah's Ark and Strike Animal Welfare Society (SAWS) Partnership

Keep the people of Bacoor safe from stray animals with rabies, and provide protection for maltreated animals. These are the goals of non-government organization non-profit Strike Animal Welfare Society or SAWS.
Noah's Ark and Strike Animal Welfare Society Partnership
Named after Bacoor Mayor Strike Revilla for his dedication to implement the animal welfare act, SAWS was established in September 2009. The group built a pound-cum-animal shelter that helps incarcerate animals that may carry deadly rabies. It also serves as a temporary shelter for dogs, cats and other animals rescued from cruelty, abandonment or neglect.

The aim of the shelter is to rehabilitate these animals and eventually find them loving homes with adopted owners.

Now more stray animals in the City of Bacoor will have better services even in rehabilitation, as SAWS is chosen as the beneficiary of Noah’s Ark Pet Columbaria- the very first columbaria in the Philippines.

Last June 18, the contract was signed between SAWS, represented by Mayor Strike Revilla and SAWS director Aileen de Guzman, and Noah’s Ark founder and president Tetet Zapanta-Huit.

While SAWS tries to provide care and affection for neglected animals, Noah’s Ark aims to give the same to animals that have passed on.

[Noah’s Ark] is a haven that provides dignity to our beloved pets and memorializes the families' years of unconditional love and devotion. It will exist to provide a memorial and final resting place for our beloved pets,” says Zapanta- Huit.

The garden themed pet columbaria will consist of 4000 vaults than can each fit ashes of dogs, cats and pocket pets. Owners of larger animals like horses may place their animal’s urns in three to four adjacent vaults.

The client has the option to place an urn in the niche initially and reserve the remaining spot for the pets they have at home. The client may also have the option to purchase a single vault as bonery for a single pet if they don’t want their pets cremated,” adds Zapanta-Huit.

With the partnership sealed, proceeds for every vault bought in Noah’s Ark will be donated to SAWS for the betterment of its pound and shelter facilities.

SAWS thanks BM Cremations INC, mother company of Noah’s Ark, and lauds its initiative of sharing the columbaria’s proceeds to benefit the animals rescued by SAWS as well as its effort to support the plight of animal welfare organizations in the Philippines.

SAWS and Noah’s Ark both see a great future in their common goal of protecting the rights of animals –owned or stray, and providing them with the love and affection they deserve in life and when they pass on.

Noah’s Ark Pet Columbaria

Noah’s Ark: A Patch of Pet Heaven

Noah’s Ark, the very first pet columbaria in the country

Noah’s Ark Pet Columbaria
Pinoys are natural pet lovers. To date, the Philippines is one of the top 5 countries in the world with the most number of household pets. But gone were the days when pets are merely trusty watchdogs at home. Many owners have come to treat their pets as companions, friends and even as kids of their own.
What used to be just veterinary clinics to give medical attention to our pets, now services are being offered for all sorts of our pet needs. From pet dental clinics, to grooming salons, obedience class for pets and even pet hotels. All are aimed to provide the best care for our beloved animal friends.

But one important need for our pet is often overlooked- the need for a decent resting place when they pass on.

Last February 18, BM Cremation Services Inc. and Zoomanity Group, held a groundbreaking ceremony for Noah’s Ark, the very first pet columbaria in the country. The ceremony was held at the 300sqm area at Zoomanity’s Theme Park Paradizoo in Mendez, Cavite. Zoomanity President Robert L. Yupangco and Noah’s Ark Founder and President Tetet Zapanta-Huit signed a contract for the joint venture which coincided with the theme park’s celebration of the Animal Festival.

Noah’s Ark Pet Columbaria is the very first pet columbarium in the Philippines,” says Zapanta-Huit, “This is a haven that provides dignity to our beloved pets and memorializes the families' years of unconditional love and devotion. It will exist to provide a memorial and final resting place for our beloved pets.”

Animal advocate and Noah’s Ark PR Executive Karla Kangleon shares she asked Zapanta-Huit to create a crematorium for pets when the latter started BM Cremation Services, a crematorium for humans, three years ago.

I’ve lost many pets through the years due to illnesses or old age. Each time a beloved pet passes away, I asked myself, ‘Where can I bury my pet?’ I later found out that it was also a frequently asked question by many of my relatives and friends who also had pets,” says Kangleon.

Noah’s Ark Pet Columbaria will be constructed within the Paradizoo Park vicinity.

Kangleon adds, “The privilege of choosing your pet’s burial is something that offers a sense of comfort and peace that pet owners are sure to appreciate. This inspired us to create Noah’s Ark, that way we can provide pet owners with a chance to properly say goodbye to their demised pets.
Not only will you give a decent resting place for your pets, you are also helping other unfortunate animals in the country as Noah’s Ark also advocates animal welfare. With every vault that you buy for your pets, proceeds will be donated to Cara Welfare Philippines and Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).  “We want Noah’s Ark to positively affect the state of animal welfare in the country,” adds Zapanat-Huit.

For most owners, pets are no longer just pets but as loyal family members that we truly care about. The bond between owners and pets can be very strong especially after sharing years of happiness together. Now this special bond can live even as our pets pass on.

With the opening of Noah’s Ark soon, our trusty pets can get the love and affection they deserve while with us on earth and even in the life after.

Pasay City Ordinance: Taxes for Dogs, Bikes

Pasay City Raises Issues on Dogs and Bicycle Taxes

Pasay residents and whole of Manila reacted on the recent City Ordinances implemented by Pasay City: taxation for dogs and bicycle owners!
Pasay City Ordinance: Taxes for Dogs, Bikes
Residents who own “domesticated dog found in your household” must pay P20 per dog. Those who owned bicycles “powered by the feet” and “for private use within the city of Pasay” must pay P30 per unit. Pasay City Mayor Calixto said the taxes were enacted in 1999 during the term of Mayor Jovito Claudio. The bicycle tax would be used to finance the cost of license plates, while the dog tax would be used to bankroll the operations of the city registry for dogs and campaigns for canine well-being such as providing antirabies shots.

And now, Pasay mayor is asking its city council to scrap the city ordinance. Please be strict on your guidelines before embarking on a new law or else, people's voice will bark at you guys just as what they/ we did through social media and other forms of complaint!

What a political move since 2013 Electoral Campaign is on the rise, politicians are trying to pull-out doughs from the people who are trying to save energy by riding bicycles and pet lovers. Instead of the local government reaching out to their constituents by initiating an advocacy project, say like a bicycle campaign or a giving free dog vaccination annually.

This was the same campaign in our village (in Quezon City) and the whole Barangay, has been adopting wherein  Councilors (I will not mention names) set up a project for dogs to received a FREE anti-rabies vaccination. Rich and poor both have access on the said projects.

The real issue should be raise for all LGUs:
  • The proper handling of pets - irresponsible dog owners. Don't let your dog poop and pee anywhere they pleased and leave behind litters, not to mention health hazards.
  • How to minimize astray dogs (askals) around the streets causing possible dangers of dog bites
  • Support NGO groups like PAWS to have more fundings for center operation
  • Really, if a dog is left without its owner - it may cause problem but a bicycle left and parked alone can do no harm, what's the fuzz with the private bike owners? I mean I bought my two year old kid a bike with a balancer, is that subjected to tax? I even payed e-VAT upon purchase of the unit, where will the VAT goes? To the local government for sure.
  • Before imposing tax on bike “powered by the feet”, consider setting up a safe bicycle lane for everyone. It just goes to show, this is where our taxes went. :) And don't label the project as (for example) "A project by HB." I mean hello did you spent a dime on that project? It's the community's taxes, where it should be.

Don't they have (the Pasay City) enough funds to allocate the needs? Pasay has the airport, mall of asia, 5-star hotels, amusement themed parks, etc. A project like that would not cost them big time! Why shoulder it from the community? Time to wake up people, think clearly before you vote for your next leader!

What about the animals in Cartimar? :) Lame ordinance, priceless idea!
