Tropical Storm Sendong [International Name: Washi]
Brought Despair on Animals and Humans Alike
When calamity strikes, human intuition is to keep themselves secured and shielded at all times, animals in captivity or house pets frequently leaves behind only to be rescued late or not at all. But for real animal lovers, especially on emergency situation, a compassionate owner never runs from his obligation and responsibility.
When Tropical Storm Sendong Passed By
On Thursday of December 16, 2011 Tropical Storm Sendong [Washi] hit the Island of Mindanao, Philippines. The storm brought 10 hours of torrential rains that triggered disastrous flash flooding. The major ports of Cagayan De Oro and Iligan experienced the worst hit, with more than 135,000 persons affected: 976 fatalities, 1603 were injured and 46 listed as missing. More than 49,441 families are homeless as of December 21, 2011 5:00 a.m.
Total loss of livelihood including animals has not been established, communities and organization nationwide works hand in hand for various relief operation for evacuees of the affected area. I pity the dogs who are left abandoned, they have lives and feelings too. We do aspire people to realize, when expecting for something as worst as this calamity, preparedness and presence of mind is the most indispensable part we could act upon.
